“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9

What a beautiful promise for parents! I have claimed this promise of Scripture over and over again. Anyone who has children or even cares for children knows what it means to become “weary in well doing”, but God has promised support and help for us if we turn to Him throughout our day!

If she [the true wife and mother] looks to God for her strength and comfort, and in His wisdom and fear seeks to do her daily duty, she will bind her husband to her heart and see her children coming to maturity honorable men and women, having moral stamina to follow the example of their mother.  {AH 534.3}

As I have thought about this quote, the end of the last sentence stands out in my mind - “having moral stamina to follow the example of their mother.” What a weighty and responsible role we hold in our homes. How important it is for us as mothers to have a vital connection with the Lord, to be ever seeking for and surrendering to His refining touch, that we may truly have characters worth following.

When I get up each morning, it is my routine to have some quiet time in study and prayer before my boys wake up.  I believe that God has a special blessing of grace and help for us as parents when we fortify ourselves with Him as our first act of the day - a blessing that we might not otherwise receive if we simply woke up and “hit the ground running”. Over the years, my experience has been that my best days have always begun with God. Unfortunately, I have also felt the utter frustration of days when I have allowed little interruptions or distractions to crowd out my time with the Lord.  It is only with Him as our counselor that we can truly lead our children aright and that we ourselves can gain characters fit to pass on to them. Only when we take time to learn from God’s word and allow His Spirit to refine and shine through us will we become beautiful women of godly character. We as wives and mothers truly hold the key to our families’ joy. By our attitudes and demeanor, we can affect the entire atmosphere of our homes.

In the word of God we find a beautiful description of a happy home and the woman who presides over it: "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her." What greater commendation can be desired by the mistress of a home than that which is here expressed?  {AH 534.2}

In your work for your children take hold of the mighty power of God. Commit your children to the Lord in prayer. Work earnestly and untiringly for them. God will hear your prayers and will draw them to Himself. Then, at the last great day, you can bring them to God, saying, "Here am I, and the children whom Thou hast given me."  {AH 536.1}
